What makes it iconic
The car that saved Audi. After near-bankruptcy under DKW, the 100 established Audi as a modern, engineering-led manufacturer and funded everything that followed.
History
Ludwig Kraus secretly developed the 100 without Volkswagen management's knowledge. When presented to VW chief Heinrich Nordhoff, the car was so impressive it was approved immediately. Its success financed Audi's transformation into a premium brand.
