The second-generation aluminum flagship. The D3 refined the Space Frame concept and introduced Audi's first W12 engine.
History
The D3 A8 (2002-2010) advanced Audi's aluminum space frame technology with improved manufacturing and greater structural rigidity. It introduced LED daytime running lights that became an Audi signature across the entire range.
The D3 was the first A8 with Audi's MMI infotainment system and adaptive air suspension. Engine options ranged from the 3.0 V6 to the 6.0 W12, competing directly with the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series.
The LED lighting strip beneath the headlights created a visual signature that every Audi model eventually adopted, making the D3 one of the most influential designs in terms of brand identity.
130,000 D3 A8s were produced, consolidating Audi's position in the luxury segment and establishing the technological leadership identity that defines the brand today.
