AWD
All-wheel drive sends power to all four wheels, maximizing traction in all conditions. Audi's Quattro system proved in the 1981 World Rally Championship that AWD belongs on tarmac, not just off-road. Modern AWD systems vary from permanent mechanical setups to electronically controlled torque vectoring. The layout adds weight and complexity but enables performance in conditions where two driven wheels would be overwhelmed.
