The hybrid hypercar that proved electrification could enhance rather than diminish the driving experience. Set a 6:57 Nurburgring lap record. Combined a 608 hp naturally aspirated V8 with two electric motors for 887 hp total. Part of the holy trinity alongside the LaFerrari and McLaren P1.

History

The 918 Spyder was Porsche's answer to the question every sports car manufacturer faced in the 2010s: how do you make a car faster and cleaner at the same time? Their solution was radical integration.

The 4.6-liter V8, derived from Porsche's RS Spyder Le Mans prototype engine, produced 608 hp at 8,700 rpm. Two electric motors added 279 hp, one at the front axle and one at the rear. Total system output: 887 hp. The car could drive 19 km in pure electric mode.

The 918 set a 6:57 Nurburgring Nordschleife lap record in 2013, beating the previous record by 14 seconds. It was the first road car under 7 minutes. The combination of instant electric torque and high-revving V8 power created acceleration that was physically overwhelming.

Exactly 918 were built (matching the model number). The Weissach Package deleted 41 kg through magnesium wheels, titanium bolts, and exposed carbon fiber. The top-exit exhausts, inspired by the Carrera GT, became the car's visual signature.

Values have appreciated from the $845,000 base price to $1.5 to $2.5 million, with Weissach Package cars commanding premiums.
