The 2000s
Supercars met SUVs. The Porsche Cayenne saved the company from financial crisis and proved that a sports car manufacturer could build a credible luxury SUV. The Ferrari Enzo deployed Formula 1 technology in a road car, using carbon ceramic brakes and active aerodynamics. The Bugatti Veyron shattered every production car record with 1,001 hp from a quad-turbocharged W16. Audi proved with the R8 that a mid-engine supercar could be driven daily. The Lamborghini Gallardo made the mid-engine experience accessible. Premium brands expanded into segments nobody expected, reshaping the entire European automotive market.
