8C Competizione
500 built. The most beautiful modern Alfa Romeo and arguably the most beautiful car of the 2000s. Ferrari-Maserati V8, carbon-fiber body, and a shape that referenced Alfa's 1950s racing heritage. The car that proved Alfa Romeo could still build a world-class GT.
History
The 8C Competizione began as a concept at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show. The reaction was so overwhelming that Alfa Romeo committed to building 500 production cars.
Wolfgang Egger's design referenced Alfa Romeo's 1950s racing cars, particularly the legendary 8C 2900B. The long hood, short rear deck, and flowing fenders created a shape of extraordinary beauty. The carbon-fiber body was bonded to an aluminum and steel chassis.
The 4.7-liter V8 came from the Ferrari-Maserati family, producing 450 PS. Rear-wheel drive was a deliberate choice: the 8C was a grand tourer in the classic sense, not a track weapon.
All 500 coupes and 500 spiders sold out before production began. The 8C proved that Alfa Romeo's design DNA was intact, even if the brand couldn't sustain this level of exclusivity in volume production.
Values have appreciated from EUR 180,000 new to EUR 250,000 to EUR 400,000 today.
